The American University of Beirut (AUB), in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, offers Mastercard Foundation Scholar Program scholarships for graduate education.The American University of Beirut is a private, non-sectarian and independent university founded in New York with its campus in Beirut, Lebanon.The university is governed by a private, autonomous board of trustees and offers programs leading to bachelor’s, master’s, MD and Ph.D. to lead. The degrees awarded at the university are officially registered with the New York Board of Regents.The American University of Beirut was institutionally accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools in June 2004.The college’s accreditation was reconfirmed in 2009, and again in 2016 and 2019. In September 2006, the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) approved the Graduate Public Health Program at the School of Public Health (FHS).The program was reaccredited for seven years in 2012. The American University of Beirut’s Graduate Public Health Program is the first CEPH-accredited public health program outside of the North American continent and the only CEPH-accredited public health program in the Arab world, Asia and Africa.The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) approved the AUB’s Rafic Hariri School of Nursing BSN and MSN programs on October 13, 2007. Accreditation was reconfirmed in 2012.In April 2009, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business accredited the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business (OSB). The accreditation was reconfirmed in 2014.In addition, AACSB is the leading international accrediting agency for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees in business administration and accounting.Less than five percent of business schools worldwide have achieved accreditation from AACSB International. The American University of Beirut offers 141 undergraduate/graduate programs and 36 certificates and diplomas.In 2007, the university introduced Ph.D. programs. The American University of Beirut also includes dozens of research centers and institutes that sponsor and promote research in a variety of fields.The American University of Beirut has been publishing since it started as a Syrian Protestant College (SPC). The earliest publication in AUB’s Nami Jafet Memorial Library was published in 1881; a study in Arabic on disease management, written by Dr. John Wortabet, Professor of Anatomy and Physiology at the Medical School of the Syrian Protestant College.
The Mastercard Foundation Scholarship program at the university aims to prepare young people to lead change in their communities, countries and regions. The scholarship requires students to complete a range of workshops, courses and field research in addition to the courses required for their degree.
Eligibility for the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Program
To qualify for the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship program, Graduate Scholarships are open to:
- nationals of Africa
- Citizens of Lebanon
- Refugees and displaced people living in Lebanon
- Selection and approval are based on:
- Academic Promise
- financial need
- leadership potential
- The desire to give back and return to one’s community
- Proof of fulfillment of the RUSE requirement (Readiness for University Studies in English).
